Don't think about the white bear

In the book I'm reading (Elephants on Acid and other bizarre experiments), there's an experiment where the scientist asked volunteers to describe their day. Nothing odd about that. He then asked them again to describe their day but without thinking about the white bear. Odd, right? The volunteers then could not STOP thinking about a white bear.

Ever since reading this, I actually see white bear around me, EVERYWHERE.
