Yasuhiro Yamashita

I can picture the brief for this house now: 'Utilise every inch of space available'. A quirky looking but also clever house in Tokyo by Japanes architect Yasuhiro Yamashita. I have blogged about Japanese architects Takuya Hosokai + Hiromasa Mori before, but this design just proves that they aren't afraid to cut corners (literally) and add interesting angles to something we've become used to seeing as a box. I love this thinking of breaking the mold and staring with an irregular shape. It's very Karim Rashid if you've ever heard an interview with the product designer. His logic is the photographic camera's shapes were predicted by the shape of films, which we no longer use in this digital age. So why are camera's still predominantly rectangular? Ponder on that.
