24 Hours of Happy

Twenty-four-hour party person Pharrell Williams has just released the world's first 24-hour music video for his song "Happy," a track off the soundtrack for Despicable Me 2.

The video, which lives on 24HoursOfHappy.com, premiered at midnight with a shot of Williams clapping and doing jazz hand as he walked through parking lots and convenience stores at night in a green sweater and a wide-brimmed black hat. In the hours since, bystanders on the street have joined in, dancing on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and driving in a convertible with their hands waving where the roof should be. One recent performer in the video was one of the movie's "minions" dancing along, and celebrities like Steve Carell, Magic Johnson and Tyler, the Creator all make appearances.

A clock on the website allows viewers to turn back time and see what happened earlier in the day. The song is four minutes long, which means it will be played 360 times over the course of 24 hours.

 

"Happy" is the second innovative video to premiere this week. On Tuesday, Bob Dylan debuted a new video for the 1965 classic "Like a Rolling Stone." A totally interactive experience, the video allows users to flip through channels as if on a TV, and see celebrities like Drew Carey and Marc Maron sing the lyrics to the track – which Rolling Stone named the greatest song of all time. One channel featured with rapper Danny Brown, who said of the collaboration, "Ain't nobody gonna say no to Dylan."
