Guilloché Patterns

Guilloché is an engraving technique in which a very precise intricate repetitive pattern or design is mechanically etched into an underlying material with very fine detail. These patterns you find commonly on money and official diplomas and certificates as a form of security or copyright.

These spirographs are not only beautiful but make you feel like a bit of a mathematical geek / genius, so imagine my delight when I stumbled on the Guilloché Pattern Generator on Subblue's website. Interestingly enough, Subblue a.k.a Tom Beddard is an ex physicist who now works as a technical director at a Scottish branding agency, Tictoc building web applications.
